Anthony Etzel 0 36891 Article rating: No rating

Are your employees not as productive as you’d like them to be? Are jobs not getting completed on schedule? Without actual data, making decisions about how efficient your operation is will be difficult. Start tracking actual time to complete each operation. Compare different production lines running the same job. Is one line running more efficiently? If so, start looking at why. Track downtime, setup, etc. Once you start really analyzing each piece of the puzzle, you can begin to uncover areas that are ripe for improvement.

BPCS/LX Tip of the Week: Create a Culture of Engaged Problem Solvers

Anthony Etzel 0 34417 Article rating: No rating

When there is a problem, making a decision in a vacuum is the worst thing you can do.

Get input from others within your organization. If possible, consult those at various levels. By being open with others as to the nature of the problem, and enlisting their help in determining the right solution, resistance to the recommended solution is quite often greatly reduced.

BPCS/LX Tip of the Week: How is your relationship going... with your suppliers?

Anthony Etzel 0 38079 Article rating: No rating

Do you have a strong relationship with your suppliers? Do they know your every need/want? No? Well, why not?

The key to any good relationship is communication. Have you established clear and consistent communication with your suppliers? Consider establishing a way for both of you to share information with each other electronically.

A portal is a good way to achieve this. Documents can be shared, updates on deliveries can be communicated with ease, and changes that can affect both your operations and theirs can be communicated efficiently and effectively.

Item Facility Master has a new attribute to define the override inspection days lead time CICP.ICINSD.

  • When an item facility has a defined override inspection days lead time, that value will be used instead of the system parameter inspection days lead time.

This enhancement improved the subfile utilized in MRP320D Master Schedule Detail Inquiry -SCR001 by expanding the subfile with data rather than clearing the subfile as user pages. This change provides full support for the WebTop 4.8 Grid decorator.

This enhancement updated the approach used to populate the subfile to allow a deployed Webtop Grid to function correctly. There is no visible or user-impacted change to the way the program functions.

This enhancement provides improved functionality and full support of a Webtop grid applied to the subfile.

Infor LN & Baan Tip: What conditions must exist before changing an item's inventory unit?

Is there a procedure for changing an item’s inventory unit? What conditions must exist before it can be done?

Once inventory transactions (receipts or issues) have occurred for an item, the inventory unit cannot be changed. If only orders have been placed against the item (sales or purchase), the inventory unit can be changed if these orders are removed and the economic stock of the item is zero.

The reason that the inventory unit cannot be changed once transactions have been made is due to how transactions are recorded. The inventory transactions are recorded in units. These units are the inventory unit of the item. The inventory unit is not held in this table, however. The inventory unit is held on the item data. For example, if 5 pieces (pcs) of an item are issued and the inventory unit is later changed to pounds (lbs), there will be a mismatch in the inventory history of the item. In the past, the item was issued as pcs, and now the item master inventory unit is lbs. As the inventory unit is not date effective, the inventory has then been issued in two different units (pcs and lbs), but there is no method to recognize this difference.
