Infor LX & BPCS Tip of the Week: LX 8.4 Database

Anthony Etzel 0 64818 Article rating: 5.0

The database in LX 8.4 has undergone a significant change from previous versions. The database has been created using SQL DDL language instead of the old DDS language. The newer format allows for LX to take better advantage of advances in IBM database technologies as they move forward. Additionally, LX will be better able to make changes to tables (aka files) in the future without causing very large MR explosions to replace all programs that use a specific table. To ease the impact of this significant change, the LX tables (aka physical files) have new names that are the same as the previous version file names but with a “P” at the end, for example IIM is now IIMP. The old file names now belong to SQL views that looks just like the tables. This change made it easier to upgrade all the LX programs without changing every reference to every file. Many of the logical files remain although some have been replaced by SQL indexes to improve performance.

Infor LN & Baan Tip of the Week: Credit Checks for Business Partners

Kathy Barthelt 0 79275 Article rating: 5.0

Did you know that you have several options for credit checks for your business partners?

Action-several options are available:

  • Always Hold (Credit)—the order will always be held until released
  • Never Hold (Credit)-the order will never be held
  • Check Credit—a credit check is performed at time of sales order entry, release to invoicing or at confirm shipment.  When this status is used, the check can be performed at one or all three steps.  The steps are only visible with this status.
  • Always Hold (Overdue Invoices)—the order will be held for overdue invoices until released.

Link the credit rating to the invoice to a business partner in the credit control session. You may also enter a credit limit. A credit limit of zero means unlimited credit.

The Security Model in IDF

Anthony Etzel 0 35753 Article rating: 5.0

By applying security to an object, you can control which users can view the object and which users can create, change, delete or copy the object.

Basic object security allows you to control who can display or maintain an object. Advanced object security allows you to control selectively who can create, change, delete, or copy an object.

In the basic model, all of the maintenance activities are permitted to those users who are authorized to maintain the object. Use the basic security model if you want a user who can change an object to also be able to create or delete the object. Use the advanced security model if you need to restrict some users to changing the object but not creating or deleting the object.

Upgrading from BPCS 6.1 to LX 8.3

Anthony Etzel 0 42455 Article rating: 5.0

It's always great to hear nice words from our customers!

"Our upgrade from BPCS 6.1 to LX 8.3 was greatly aided by Crossroads RMC. Their extensive knowledge of the financial system was a saving grace for us since we had a system that was set up over 15 years ago by people no longer in the company. The patience and professionalism of Hugh Carty made the transition much less complicated and frustrating. There is no doubt in my mind that it would have taken a much longer period and a substantially more painful path if it was not for Crossroads RMC bending over backward to accommodate our processes and time constraints.

Crossroads RMC was also able to help us with AS400 technical training, MRP production system design, and pricing using Promotions and Deals. This large swath of knowledge was very helpful in management discussions. Thanks to the Crossroads RMC team and in particular Hugh Carty, Yupo was able to bring this implementation under budget and on time."

Infor LX & BPCS Tip of the Week: Partial Search in Item Description List

Anthony Etzel 0 61827 Article rating: 5.0

Previously, if a user performed a partial search for an item by using a double byte language, no matches were found. Regardless of whether the MLS module is used, this enhancement allows a user to use a double byte language to perform partial or full item description searches. This enhancement resolves an issue with partial searches on screens where the Item Master Lookup (WINIIM) screen is used, such as Material Status Inquiry, INV300D-01, Item Master Selection INV100D1-01, Facility Planning Selection, MRP140D1-01, and Purchasing Inquiry, PUR300D1).

The user selects the F4 prompt from these screens to open the Item Description List. In the prompt window, the user specifies option 10 to perform a partial or full search on an item description.

Infor LN & Baan Tips & Tricks for EXECUTIVES

FINANCE: Copy Received Purchase Invoices (tfacp1210m000)

When the invoice is copied, the status in the Invoice Status field in the Received Purchase Invoices (tfacp1500m000) session is set to Registered. The invoice cannot be copied again.

Note: If you have started this session using the browse arrow, you can only find and select a record.

Field Information

  • Invoice-from Business Partner: The invoice-from business partner
  • Document - The document number: The document number is a sequence number under which the invoice is temporarily recorded. When an invoice is registered officially, you must assign the invoice to a different number, in combination with a transaction type.
  • Business Partner Invoice Number: The invoice-from business partner's invoice number is the invoice identification used in LN: This number is printed as the payment reference when the invoice is paid.
  • Invoice Date: The date printed on the invoice. This date is used as a reference date for the term of credit allowed.
  • Currency: The invoice currency
  • Amount: The invoice amount

OPERATIONS: Production Order Parameters

To avoid having to report quantities also at the order level, set the Post to Inventory when Reporting on Last Operation parameter to Yes in these sessions:

  • Production Order Parameters (tisfc0100s000) > Planning tab
  • Production Settings by Site (timfc0180m000) > Production Order tab

With regard to as-built handling, because JobControl acts as a reporting tool similar to the Machine Work List (tisfc4600m000) session, we recommend these settings in the Production Order Parameters (tisfc0100s000) session (Miscellaneous tab) and Production Settings by Site (timfc0180m000) session (Production Order tab):

  • In the Serials section, set the Generate Serial Numbers parameter to On Printing Documents or On Release as the serial number that can be selected in JobControl to report completed or rejected products must have the Valid status in LN.
  • In the Serials section, we recommend setting the As-Built Status Handling parameter to Manual as the serial number assignment is performed in JobControl.

TECHNOLOGY: Audit Configuration Management

You use LN audit features to fully or partially log changes that users make to the LN database tables when they use LN sessions.

The audit functionality is based on the concept of audit profiles. In an audit profile, you define which tables and fields are audited and when, in the context of an audit profile. To bundle profiles in the same functional area, you can relate the profiles to audit categories. You can export and import audit profiles with various options to enable a quick configuration. The audit trail is stored in sequence files, which are generated for each combination of company and table.

Note: For some important parameter tables it is required that auditing is enabled.

You can view or print the history of modifications.
