Baan/LN Tip of the Week: Restricted User Access

Kathy Barthelt 0 99257 Article rating: No rating

Administrators are able to restrict access in Baan in several ways – including Companies, Packages, Modules, Sessions, and Tables – using the Authorization capabilities of the system.

In Baan IV, access can be given or denied on a user by user basis.

In Baan V and LN, the Authorization Management System can provide or deny access based upon roles to which users are assigned.

BPCS/LX TIP OF THE WEEK: INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

Anthony Etzel 0 35652 Article rating: No rating

Establishing the Quantity On-Hand and the Quantity Available.

LX maintains buckets for information associated with the following inventory transactions for each item:

  • Opening Balance
  • Issues
  • Receipts
  • Adjustments
  • Allocations for the Customer
  • Allocations for Manufacturing

The on hand quantity does not include any allocations. To arrive at the on hand quantity, start with the opening balance, less any issues, plus any receipts, then add or subtract any adjustments. Available inventory is the on-hand less any allocations.

Baan/LN Tip of the Week: Old Porting Set

Kathy Barthelt 0 135619 Article rating: No rating

Here are some issues that you might run into if you stay on an old porting set too long:

  • Incompatibility because of operating system patches
  • Printing issues because of out-of-date libraries
  • Potential performance issues if binaries are not updated
  • Updating third party products may not be possible because of dependencies
  • Limited support from Infor
  • Issues with updating database software/patches because of dependencies (if database is also running on same server as application)

Need help getting on a newer porting set? Let us know! We’d be happy to help.

Baan/LN Tip of the Week: What Could go Wrong With GRINYA?

Kathy Barthelt 0 180297 Article rating: No rating

One common GRINYA issue would be incorrectly entered Integration Setups.

Check the Baan/LN manual for recommended Integration setups. If such a mistake were to occur, it is important to know for what period of time the Integration was in error.

It is recommended that the Integrations Setup tables be audited either through Baan or Database Auditing. Corrections can be quickly calculated when an exact timeframe can be determined.

BPCS/LX Tip of the Week: Actual Versus Standard

Anthony Etzel 0 51691 Article rating: No rating

Job costing based on standards is great, but what if reality doesn’t match up to that?

What if jobs are really taking twice as long, and you don’t know that? What if jobs are taking ½ as long as you think, but you’re scheduling based on how much time they “should” take? Either way, you’re losing money and productivity. Getting a handle on start/stop times for jobs, and therefore the total amount of time actually spent allows you to take proper action and be more productive.

Infor LN & Baan Tip of the Week: Limitations of Customer Defined Fields (CDFs)

Customer Defined fields are fields that can be added to tables, screens, reports, and BODs. Validation and calculation logic can be defined around those fields. This gives you great added capability and flexibility… however, are you aware of the limitations of using CDFs?

  • You cannot define customer-defined fields for tables within Tools (the tl and tt packages).
  • External integrations, such as Infor Integration, EDI, Office Integration, and SOA-based integration, do not support customer-defined fields.
  • You can use customer-defined fields within 4GL reports if editing the 4GL report layouts is still supported in your environment or by using the report personalization features of Infor LN Report Designer. For external reporting, only Infor Reporting and Microsoft Reporting (SSRS) support customer-defined fields.
  • Customer-defined fields cannot store application data in multiple data languages.
  • There is no direct limitation on the number of CDFs in a table. The actual number of fields in a table and the total length of all fields may be limited by the RDBMS you use.
  • Only superusers can run the Convert to Runtime Data Dictionary (ttadv5215m000) session to convert the customer-defined fields and the related domains to the runtime data dictionary.

Note: The full functionality of customer-defined fields is only available within Web UI and LN UI. Customer-defined fields are not displayed in the classic Infor LN BW UI.

If you have questions or need assistance with the use of CDFs, or Infor LN or Baan modifications in general, please contact us for assistance. We’d be happy to help. 800.762.2077 or kbarthelt@crossroadsrmc.com
