LX & BPCS Tip: Unlocking Efficiency and Customization: The Power of Infor Development Framework (IDF)

George Moroses 0 5491 Article rating: 5.0

The Infor Development Framework (IDF) is a significant component of Infor's efforts to modernize its Infor LX application. IDF aims to enhance the user experience by introducing a task-oriented approach to accessing information within Infor LX. It is designed to replace LX Inquiry screens. Here are some key points about IDF:

Why You Need IDF

The Infor Development Framework (IDF) not only helps you modernize the look and feel of your LX software but also the interactions of the IBM i software with other applications in your business.

“The IDF is a multi-user interface, single codebase architecture that’s metadata-driven (and) provides a lot of flexibility to adapt the software for their processes.” says Infor. This is the direction that Infor is going starting...

Infor LX & BPCS Tip: What is IDF and Why Do I Need It?

The Infor Development Framework (IDF) re-architects the way a user interacts with the application by providing an efficient, task-oriented process to view the application information that is contained within Infor LX. IDF enables users to configure their view of the application data without modifying the core application and its supportability.

The examples below describe how users can configure their display of data and maximize overall productivity:

  • Arrange application information into multiple groupings and sequences that make sense for the job.
  • Hide information that does not apply to a particular job or task.
  • Filter records to show only the information that applies to the job or task that the user is performing.
  • Customize the information for an individual user, for a group of users, or for all users.

Infor LX & BPCS: Explore IDF Programs

George Moroses 0 12003 Article rating: 5.0

IDF (Infor Development Framework) configures your view of the application data without modifying the core application and its supportability. In version 8.3.4 and higher, IDF programs provide the replacement for most of the 300 series inquiry programs. Starting with version 8.4, Infor has added 100 series maintenance programs such as Item Master, Vendor Master, and Customer Master. With IDF, navigation drill-downs are far superior to any green-screen presentation of the data.

Included with IDF are several interfaces including:...

The Infor Development Framework (IDF) provides two options that you can use to review information about jobs that are in the job queue or underway at the workstations and change the status of unattached jobs or review detailed information for specific unattached jobs.

Option 5 – Job Status Maintenance: Use this option to review information about jobs that are in the job queue or underway at the workstations. You can also delete records of jobs in the Job Activity (JOBACT) file.

Option 6 – Unattached Job Status Maintenance: Use this option to change the status of an unattached job. You can also review detail information for a selected unattached job.

IDF News: Making modifications to IDF programs or files

George Moroses 0 20356 Article rating: 5.0

If you are making modifications to IDF programs or files, it is a good idea to create your modified objects in a test library that you create for this purpose.

The test library should be added to the top of the library list just after the temporary library QTEMP so your modified objects are found instead of the standard IDF objects. This test library allows you to make changes and test them, or to continue running in this mode permanently without actually replacing the original objects. This test library also helps you to isolate and control your modifications when applying patches from Infor.

Determining whether to use Master Production Schedule (MPS) planning or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) planning for items in Infor LX and BPCS involves understanding the nature of the items and their demand characteristics.

Tips: LN | Baan

In Baan IV, plan items exist within the context of a plan code. A plan code includes only items of the MPS Item item type. Planned orders are independent of a plan code. Users can compare plan codes by means of the Plan Code Performance Comparison (cprmp4504m000) session.

The scenario concept in Infor LN replaces the plan code concept in Baan IV.

In Infor LN, the basic data for plan items is the same for all scenarios. However, users maintain not only the master plan within a scenario, but the planned orders as well.

For example, for each scenario, Users can specify:

  • Special demand for an item.
  • The availability of resources (in the Scenario – Availabilities (cprpd4160m000) session).
  • The sourcing strategies and supply strategies.

Users can compare scenarios by means of the Performance Indicators (cprao2201s000) session.

In Baan IV Purchase Control, the purchase inquiry procedure enables the user to:

  • Request a specific supplier to submit a quotation on the purchase inquiry for the delivery of an item.
  • Compare the prices and discounts of the quotations that are submitted by different suppliers.
  • Copy the inquiry data to a purchase order.

In LN, you can:

  • Request multiple business partners to submit a quotation on a specific request-for-quotation for the delivery of an item.
  • Compare the received quotations based on the following criteria:
  1. Price
  2. Quantity
  3. Vendor rating
  4. Delivery dates
  5. RFQ subjective criteria
  • Copy the quotation data to a purchase order, a purchase contract, or a price book.
